Munitions Preparation Engineer
Type: Contract

Description:

World class Defence Organisation based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire is currently looking to recruit a Munitions Preparation Engineer.

Please Note: The candidate must be eligible for UK MoD clearance for access to the appropriate security level.
The contract is initially for 6 months (ongoing after).

The rate on offer is negotiable.

Summary:

Conduct and documentation of, the LM Munition Preparation and Extended System Integration testing (Cross element tests) activities [focused on Ethernet /RS422 and discrete interfaces systems , electronics, sensors, telemetry, mechanical integration of munition to boost and launcher, and systems testing], reporting to the Munition Preparation Manager.
This will involve working within a challenging programme that will have tight timescales and changing priorities.

Detailed:

  • Generation and maintenance of, the test schedules, proving requirements ,proving instructions, equipment / facility requirements, reports, NCR’s This will include liaison with subsystem suppliers, systems design, software, clearance and flight trials teams.
  • Conduct of and reporting of etc compatibility trials [mechanical/ electrical / software etc] for each Munition variant and software standard.
  • Conduct of cross element testing involving the munition and ground equipments.
  • Technical investigations into non conformances, and to determine system performance and compatibility characteristics..
  • Conduct of and reporting of integration/ preparation of each Munition variant and software standard.
  • In conjunction with the flight trials team the conduct of and reporting of integration/ preparation of each Munition at the range including live build, functional test etc
  • The generation of and conduct of work arounds to problems
  • Contributions to Design reviews and fit for delivery/ trials/flight reviews..
  • Adoption of safe working procedures within the compatibility + integration/preparation area
  • The commissioning and running of the compatibility + integration/preparation facilities /area.
  • Collation and assessment of Munition compatibility + preparation results including preparation of proving reports.
  • Contribute to fit for trials/fire reviews as necessary.


The post holder may be expected to support overseas range activities for short periods (up to 4 weeks). In particular to apply experience gained at Stevenage in the preparation of the Munition at the Range.

As a member of a small team involvement in all activities will be expected, but the focus for this position will be on the RS422/ ethernet data bus systems , electronics , data links, sensors [Thermal, TV],and telemetry aspects of compatibility + integration/preparation, mechanical, electrical systems, explosive / safety circuits, assembly, live build, physical measurements, engine management.

Experience required:

  • Good detailed understanding + practical experience of RS422, Ethernet, Electronics test, telemetry, mechanical and electrical test (essential).
  • Good understanding + of, Data Links, and Sensors (essential).
  • Understanding + practical experience of , Data Bus systems other than RS 422 ( desirable)
  • Good detailed understanding + practical experience of Sensors [Thermal, TV etc], (desirable)
  • Understanding + practical experience of , mechanical integration , Live Build Live Explosive / Safety circuit Testing ( desirable)
  • Experience of systems integration activities covering hardware and software (essential).
  • Ability to undertake thorough technical investigations including the recording of trials conditions and results (essential).
