'Engineering' Future Education

February 2014

Leigh University Technical College (UTC), part of the Leigh Academies Trust, has chosen the high technology engineering company, MASS, to provide its Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) solution.  The UTC will provide students with a curriculum in an environment that mirrors actual business.  MASS, a Cohort plc company, will provide the design and installation ahead of the opening in September 2014.

Uniquely, the solution will make use of real-world business solutions and integrate the latest technology rather than being reliant upon bespoke education solutions.  To help prepare students for their future, MASS will ensure that the solution remains applicable to the education environment and supports the UTC in the delivery of its curriculum.

Steve Leahey, Principal Designate of The Leigh UTC, said "The purpose of Leigh UTC is to provide an exciting, innovative, business-led, problem-solving curriculum throughout Key Stages 4 and 5.  Our curriculum specifically reflects the diversity of engineering skills required in the business of our partners.  An integrated ICT curriculum that mirrors actual business user environments is critical to the learning of our students. It was evident from our interactions with MASS that they were the team we wanted to support the UTC.  Their knowledge of the UTC market gave me the confidence to select them as a partner and I am looking forward to them working with us."

Ashley Lane, Managing Director of MASS, said "As the ICT partner to Leigh Academies Trust it is important to us that we support the delivery of education to the student population in the way that the Leigh UTC wants.  Our in-depth knowledge and experience in the provision of secure networks to both public and business customers will ensure that the solution underpins the importance of ICT in their curriculum."
