Royal Thai Air Force upgrades to state-of-the-art EW data management

April 2014

MASS is proud to announce the sale of its leading Electronic Warfare (EW) data-management system, THURBON™, to the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF).  The RTAF is the first air force in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to use THURBON™.

The purchase is part of RTAF’s ongoing drive to modernise its equipment, following the 7% increase in the Thai defence budget to US $5.7 billion in 2013. THURBON™ will support the air force’s new SAAB Gripen aircraft, which requires up-to-date EW data for its integrated defensive aids system used to protect the aircraft.

EW data and intelligence are critical to the operational effectiveness of modern military platforms and weapon systems.  Without it, the Gripen aircraft – like many modern military platforms and weapons systems – would be operationally constrained.  A robust data management capability needs to be at the heart of an EW support centre to allow the large volumes of EW data to be analysed and processed efficiently.

THURBON™ offers the RTAF an affordable, capable and fully independent EW data and intelligence management system.  Through the use of effective automation, the system allows efficient management and analysis of complex data helping to reduce operator workloads.  The system architecture allows easy integration with other data sources and software tools, as well as offering fully integrated mapping and data repository.

THURBON™ has already been selected by the UK Defence EW Centre as the UK’s next generation EW database and is being provided to other overseas customers too.

Ashley Lane, Managing Director of MASS said, "THURBON offers robust operational support to armed forces seeking to become operationally independent in the EW environment.  MASS has been involved in the EW Operational Support life cycle for more than 20 years, and THURBON is now at the heart of that life cycle."
