Introducing Chris Clift, Digital Forensics Training Manager at MASS

October 2017

Name: Chris Clift

Job title at MASS: Digital Forensics Training Manager

Professional background: Prior to joining MASS, Chris was a Lead Technical Forensics Investigator and Forensic Imagery Analysist in the Video and Audio Forensics Sector, having spent 14 years in the role. Prior to that, Chris spent 15 years working in the Broadcast Film and Television sector, first as a qualified Telecommunications Broadcasting Engineer, having gained an HND at Ravensbourne College, Kent. His next move was as a Digital Video Editor, working for the likes of Richard and Judy on ‘This Morning’ as well as gaining numerous television and film credits, working with such notorieties as Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sir Kenneth Branagh. Chris was also a recognised trainer and demonstrator for one of the major editing equipment manufacturers, affording him the opportunity to travel extensively.

During his time working in forensics, Chris has provided evidential reports for the vast majority of UK Police Forces, the PSNI, Garda, the Gibraltar Police and numerous solicitors in the UK and overseas, providing expert witness testimony in a number of Court cases, as well as assisting in Judicial Enquiries. Chris went on to develop training courses which were subsequently undertaken by SOCA (now the NCA) and Merseyside Police.

The combination of Chris’ skills dovetails nicely with the direction that MASS are currently heading in the provision of training as part of the Metropolitan Police’s DFMS contract and the Enabling Digital Forensics Capability pilot, together with potential plans to develop the capability of the Self Service Equipment (SSE) Kiosks in the future. With a great team of people, Chris and the training group are in the last stages of preparing to produce and deliver training to some 2000 Met Police officers and an increasing number of on-boarding Police Officers from other forces in the UK and potentially abroad.

Chris is a lover of music and a self-confessed movie addict who enjoys playing around with ‘techie stuff’. He also enjoys mountain biking, traveling and spending time with his family, friends and his beloved dog.
