March 2006
MASS has just been awarded a £9m contract for the Secure Communications in Aircraft (SCA) update on one of the RAF’s primary ISTAR assets, the Nimrod R Mk1. This prestigious programme, involves the development, integration and support of a greatly improved Communications and Radio Management capability, which will enable the aircraft to play its part fully as a network enabled asset in the forefront of UK operations.

MASS will prime the SCA programme involving the design, integration and installation of a Communications Management System based upon MASS’s existing RCADS radio management system; the integration and installation of UHF radios; improvements to air and ground elements of the UHF Satellite Communications system; antenna management; and a full upgrade of the existing intercom.

Commenting on the award, Malcolm Lowes, Commercial Director, stated “This is a significant programme for us to win and is made more rewarding by virtue of the tough competition. MASS has developed a major capability in the area of Aircraft Communication Distribution Systems. This programme further strengthens our portfolio of products and our capability in the vitally important area of network enabling military platforms. We look forward to working closely with the MoD and the end users on the successful fulfilment of this programme”.
