MASS Marches for Forces Charity

A team of six from MASS, part of the Cohort plc group, completed the Pathfinder March in June, raising nearly £500 for SSAFA, the group's chosen charity of the year.

The Pathfinder March is an annual commemoration of the role played by the 'Pathfinder Force' in the Second World War, comprising of a 46 mile route taking in the four main airfields used by the Pathfinders from 1943-45: Wyton, Warboys, Graveley and Oakington.  The Pathfinder Force, which grew to 19 squadrons during the war, were a spearhead force that undertook the dangerous missions of locating and marking targets with flares for the main bombers forces to aim at.

The team completed the 46 mile trek in less than 14 hours, starting at 4am on a cold and wet Saturday morning, which was well within the 20 hour time limit.

MASS and Cohort plc, have chosen SSAFA as their charity of the year, already raising £10,000 in vital funds for the charity’s work offering lifelong support to the Armed Forces and Armed Forces families.

Ashley Lane, Managing Director of MASS, said "A third of our staff are from an ex-military background, and being one of the first companies to sign up to the Corporate Covenant, providing support to SSAFA was a natural choice.  We are pleased to support our staff raising funds for such worthwhile causes."

Andy Thomis, CEO of Cohort plc, said "Many Cohort plc group company employees are actively involved in raising money for charity, and SSAFA is a cause that has a close connection to the work of the group."

Deborah Easlick, Director of Fundraising at SSAFA, said: "We are delighted that MASS and Cohort plc group have taken part in this challenge and raised funds for our vital cause in supporting our forces and their families, for life.  Without generous donations from the public and organisations like MASS, we wouldn’t be able to offer the forces community our ongoing support."
