Niki Eales: Having an impact doing work that matters

Building a career at MASS is much more than a job, it’s an opportunity to explore and develop new skills, hone already existing ones and live new experiences. Niki Eales from our accounts team is certainly one who’s journey with us has afforded her the opportunities to explore and grow – here’s what she had to say when we caught up with her last month:

Tell us about yourself

I would describe myself as a bit of a nerd – I love movies and music as well as quizzes about movies and music. I also really enjoy building Lego models; I’ve got so many now that I’m running out of spaces to put them in my house! I also love going on dog walks with my partner & our two sausage dogs Olive & Hugo.

What’s your journey at MASS been like?

It’s been a great and there’s been a lot of changes since I started with MASS 8 years ago! Over this time, I’ve been involved with managing first aid, helping to implement a new finance system, and joining the Employee Voice (formerly the Employee Forum) which I became the chairperson of approx. 2 years ago. Being part of these has given me a unique opportunity to make connections & build relationships with other employees across the business that I may not have done otherwise just carrying out my day-to-day role.

Tell us more about being Employee Voice chairperson, how did that come about?

So, I started as just a rep for Enterprise House (Head Office) and only reluctantly agreed! However, after my first meeting I could see that it had people on the team who really wanted to make a difference, and that changed my mind. A year into being a rep, the group needed a new chairperson, and I was kindly nominated by the rest of my peers in 2023. I feel that the EV forum is a great asset for MASS, although I accept as CP, I am slightly biased. I’m very proud of what we do, and I really hope that people across the business feel that we make a positive difference to all.

Do you feel like you’ve developed personally and professionally in your time at MASS?

When I joined MASS, I had come from a hiatus in my career. They supported me in obtaining my 3rd level AAT (Accounting qualification) and provided me with the platform to turn my knowledge to experience and expertise. I’ve also become a qualified first aider and of course, Employee Voice chairperson (despite having never held a similar role ever in my life before MASS). So yeah, safe to say in my time here, I’ve grown a lot!

If you could pick out one great benefit of being at MASS, what would it be and why?

I’ll say the Well-being Allowance for sure, because it’s meant I’ve been able to afford more Lego models! Haha! On a serious note, I feel that the Well-being Allowance has been revolutionary since it was introduced. It’s such a wonderful benefit that allows MASS people to use it for something that can really bring joy to them. It being so flexible and versatile as a benefit is fabulous.
